Apprenticeships Victoria recognises the crucial role of employers in the apprenticeship and traineeship system. We want to support all kinds of Victorians looking to skill and reskill as apprentices and trainees. And that means supporting the businesses who hire them, too.

Managing and mentoring an employee through the early stages of on-the-job training and on to being a fully qualified worker is an incredibly rewarding process. But some of the responsibilities that come with taking on an apprentice or trainee can be challenging.

We know that getting support and expert guidance is crucial to the success of your apprenticeship or traineeship program.

Apprenticeship Support Officers

Apprenticeship Support Officers (ASOs) help apprentices get the most out of the apprenticeship system. They can advise on a range of matters, including wages, training, safety and wellbeing.

Who else can help?

The VRQA(opens in a new window) is an independent statutory authority that works to assure the quality of education and training in Victoria. The authority regulates apprenticeships and traineeships in Victoria and makes routine visits to workplaces to ensure both parties are meeting their obligations. The VRQA can also provide advice and help to resolve disputes, as well as investigate when required.

ANPs(opens in a new window) are contracted by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations to provide a free advice and support service to employers and apprentices/trainees to help them from pre-commencement to completion of the apprenticeship or traineeship. The ANP is required to personally visit employers and apprentices/trainees to assist in the completion of the Training Contract. The providers contracted to deliver services in Victoria can be located by calling 13 38 73.
